Bispens Market – For Operators

july 22-26 we open the doors to Bispens Market – if you want to join us, read on…

With Bispens Marked, our vision is to create an event where quality, authenticity, learning, experience and involvement come together. We want Bispens Marked to be an attractive event for both guests and participants. We do not try to reconstruct the Middle Ages one by one, but emphasize authenticity and high quality for all participants.

The goal of Bispens Marked is to convey the history of Spøttrup Castle to a wide audience. With an emphasis on the late Middle Ages, the castle as a defense, as well as the structure of society, religion and worldview. We want our communication to take place in an engaging and fun way, where the visitors themselves are part of the event and not just spectators.

Authenticity, openness, communication and fun are key words for us.

Bispens Marked has not settled on a specific year or century, but works roughly within the historical framework of Spøttrup Borg, which in this context means the period 1340-1536.

Guidelines – in a nutshell

Bispens Marked has not settled on a year or a century, but works roughly within the historical framework of Spøttrup Borg’s work as a bishop’s castle, which means 1350-1536 (with some good will).

Therefore, stalls and camps must represent trade stalls or field camps from this period, and each participant undertakes to appear in period-correct costume and other appearances.

Camp/Stall

Stalls and camps must represent medieval trade stalls/field camps. Modern props and materials are not allowed. Only props, materials, furniture and fixtures that existed in the Middle Ages are allowed. Necessary modern aids should be hidden as far as possible so that they are not visible to the audience.

Use wood or similar for signs and natural colors – no neon green, pink or similar colors for price tags for example – and preferably no lamination.

Appearance

Everyone participating as an actor (both groups and stall holders) must be dressed in medieval clothing.

We would like the costumes to be made of wool and undyed or light-colored linen. As we know that many participants have costumes made of colored linen, these are still allowed, but we would like women to wear a woolen over-dress and men to wear at least trousers made of wool. Nervous velvet is not allowed and we prefer not to use cotton.

Women above the “virgin stage” must wear headgear.

If you don’t have medieval footwear, discreet brown or black footwear is fine.

Colorful tattoos, piercings, contemporary hairstyles and non-natural hair colors should be removed or covered. Modern makeup and nail polish are also not allowed.

Vikings: As we have also brought Vikings to Bispens Marked for a number of years, we would love to help with “medievalizing” clothing and camp. Please contact Tine Danielsen for further info or help.

Weapons

It is the individual’s responsibility to obtain and bring the necessary permits. For further information see:

https://politi.dk/vaaben/borger/ansoeg-om-vaabentilladelse

Animals

Pets are welcome. The owner has full responsibility both during and outside opening hours. Dogs must be kept on a leash. For dogs, collars and leashes must be made of leather or rope in black, brown or similar colors.
